In addition to tiny links, something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time is to prettify all the full versions of links on this site through the joys of mod_rewrite. All the blog post links are now in this new format.
Instead of getting something like this:
http://taishimizu.com/index.tai?title=An-Unexpected-Ball-Game&view=post&postid=157
The link now becomes this:
http://taishimizu.com/157/An-Unexpected-Ball-Game
Much nicer, eh? There’s still a few non-blog post links that need to be changed, but it’s 90% there. All the old links still work, and redirect to the new versions.
I added more photos of the Nikon 300mm f/4.5 ED-IF AIS to that review. I also added a photo of the pn-11 extension tube to the Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/4 AIS Review.
Nikon 85mm f/1.4 AIS on D200
This shot was taken on the same day as the ones I’ve added to the reviews. It’ll be in the review of the Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 AIS whenever I get around to writing it.
Thanks to Twitter, shortened links seem to be all the rage these days. I tweet on occasion and for that reason I created tiny links for this site. You can either copy the url off of the “Tiny link” link under a post’s title, or click on the little “T” icon that finishes each article to get the link at the bottom.

Edit: I added more pictures here in honor of their World Series victory
I had no plans to go to the Yankees game last night — in fact, I had not known one was scheduled — but a friend of a friend had good tickets, so there I was.
I’m the first to admit that I know nothing about sports in general, baseball being no exception. The knowledge I do possess comes from scattered rememberings of conversations I was not a part of, and many hours playing Mario Baseball. On my side was my D200 and Nikon 300mm f/4.5 ED-IF AIS — plenty to get me into the game.
The highlight of the night was Hideki Matsui’s game tying home run in the 8th inning.
Matsui's Home Run
This was immediately followed up with a second home run by Posada which I did an excellent job in not photographing. It’s not that my photos of it were bad, I thought I’d use a few minutes to take in the game rather than shoot after Hideki’s home run so there were no photos. It was a decision I immediately regretted.
I did get my camera up in time to see what was going on the field as the play was in review for something like “fan interference”.
5 frames per second has always been enough for my purposes, but a faster certainly would help in sports photography. This is the only photo I got of actual batter contact with the ball.
I’m pretty happy with my first outing into sports photography (second, if you count a snowboarding event I went to earlier this year). I wish I could have brought more lenses with me, but c’est la vie. If anyone has connections to get me in the photographers areas in the stadium, I certainly wouldn’t refuse.

Over the weekend I updated the Lens Focal Length Equivalency Calculator with photos from 13 or so focal lengths. It’ll display a photo from the closest lens I used to the selected focal length. Also, if you put your mouse over any of the crop sizes, it’ll show you how a sensor of that size crops vs. a full frame image.
